What is a lace wig?

Lace wigs are a revolution in the hair and beauty industry. Popular with celebrities such as Beyonce, lace wigs give the most natural looking finish possible, far superior than standard wigs.

Lace wigs are made with a special, fine, flesh-toned lace that have individual hairs hand tied into it. This means the hairs fall in a very natural manner and look as though they are growing out from your own scalp.

There are two types of lace wig; lace front wigs and full lace wigs. Lace front wigs have lace only at the front section of the wig, going from ear over to ear and going back around 2 to 4 inches. The back section just looks like an ordinary wig. These wigs are able to be parted on top in almost any direction and the hair will look like it is your own. Full lace wigs have caps made entirely of lace. This allows the hair to be parted in any direction and even be worn up in a ponytail as the entire perimeter is glued down to your hairline.

How do I fit my lace wig?

Fitting a lace wig properly takes a lot of practice and so we always recommend you get your lace wig fitted by a trained professional. However, if you are unable to see a specialist in your area and so have to fit the wig yourself, you may want to visit YouTube to watch some tutorials. We recommend the following example:

Alternatively, follow our step by step guide:
  1. Place lace wig on head to ensure good fit and trim away any excess lace.
  2. Ensure hair is clean and dry and plait into cornrows, keeping hair as flat as possible.
  3. Cleanse the scalp (and nape for full lace wigs) with 99% alcohol to remove any grease or residue.  This will ensure the glue adheres for longer.
  4. (Optional) Put on stocking cap in same colour as flesh tone and sew/glue down to secure.
  5. Place lace wig unit onto head and carefully fold back lace area.  Apply glue and/or tape to the natural hairline.  Wait until tacky then carefully align edges and hold down until set.  Use a comb to help press down all areas.
  6. (Full lace wigs only) Repeat step 5 for the lace at the nape of the wig.
  7. (Optional) For extra security, sew down the lace wig at the crown and towards the back.
  8. Style as desired.
How do I remove my lace wig?

Proper removal of your lace wig is essential to maximize its lifespan.  Again, we recommend having your lace wig removed by a trained professional, however if this is not possible, please follow the steps below:
  1. Ensure you use a suitable remover for the glue brand you have used.
  2. Saturate the lace perimeter with the remover and leave for a few minutes to work in.
  3. Massage the product into the lace and gently try to lift the lace away from the skin.  If the lace does not come away easily, leave the product a little longer and massage again.
  4. Once the lace wig has been freed, gently lift away, taking great care not to tear the lace.
  5. Cut away any stitches.
  6. Use a suitable cleanser to remove final traces of glue from skin/hairline.
  7. Work a lace wig net cleaner into the glue still on the lace with a soft toothbrush and wipe/pull away any excess.
How do I maintain my lace wig?

All of Georgina’s lace wigs are made from 100% remi human hair and can be styled and treated just like your own.  Therefore, the hair can be straightened or curled as you please, but to keep the hair in the best possible condition, it is always best to use a heat protector spray or gloss before doing so.

For curly wigs, curls can be re-formed by simply rubbing mousse through the hair and scrunching slightly.

Lace wigs will need to be re-applied every 1-6 weeks, depending on the type of glue used and each individual’s skin and hair condition.  They should also be washed every 4-6 weeks to keep them smelling fresh and to remove any product/glue build-up.  To wash your lace wig, treat it like a delicate piece of laundry and swish around a basin with warm water and a mild shampoo.  Gently rinse and do not rub.  Then apply a moisturising conditioner.  Detangle with a wide toothed comb from the ends up and allow to dry completely before styling.

How do I know what size cap I need?

The chart below provides six simple steps for taking measurements for your lace front wig.
  1. Hair Preparation: If you have existing hair, we recommend styling your current hair like it will be under the wig when the wig is worn. In order to achieve accurate measuring results, either braid your hair straight back into flat cornrows along the scalp, braid hair in a flat beehive, or wrap it back in a flat tight ponytail. Make sure to get the hair as flat and tight as possible before taking the measurements. This will eliminate bulges that distort head contours.

If you have hair that is less than 3" Inches in length or no hair at all, you can either take measurements when the hair is wet and flat along the scalp, apply a wig cap to flatten the hair, or simply take measurements directly to the scalp. Make sure to press firmly against the scalp and measure only where your hairline appears or wherever you desire the lace hairline to be constructed.
  2. Standard Size/Average Measurements: Below are the average measurements for the 6 sections shown in the table below.  Not everyone will meet these measurements - some may be under or over and that is perfectly normal.  Simply find the closest match to your measurement and choose your cap size accordingly.

  3. 1. Small: 20" to 21.5" circumference, (13.5-14"), 12", 12.5", 14.5", 5"
    2. Medium: 22" to 22.5"circumference, 14", (12.5-13"), 13", 15.5", (5.5"-6")
    3. Large: 23" to 24.5"circumference, (15.5-16"), 13", 13.5", 16.5", (6.5-7")

  4. To Take Self Measurements: Use a soft measure tape to measure steps 1-6 below, you can use the typical tape measure used for clothing.  We take measurements in whole and half inches, so please round your measurements up not down.  Example: 12 3/4 should be rounded up to 13 and 12 1/4 should be rounded up to 12 1/2.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure that your measurements are ACCURATE.  If you do not measure properly, your wig may not fit.  So take your measurements at least 2-3 times to be sure.
